Crespino. Interazioni farmacologiche.

Il crespino (Berberis vulgaris) trova impiego nel trattamento di disturbi digestivi quali dispepsia, diarrea, gastrite, distensione addominale e flatulenza (1). Gli estratti della pianta sono risultati efficaci anche per la gestione della diarrea di origine batterica (2-8), del tracoma oculare (9) e della leishmaniosi cutanea (10-13).
I suoi principali costituenti includono alcaloidi isochinolinici quali berberina, oxicantina, berbamina, jatrorrizina e magnoflorina (14-16).
La berberina è in grado di sovraregolare l’espressione del gene per la glicoproteina P, riducendo la ritenzione di farmaci chemioterapici come il paclitaxel (17,18). Inoltre, la berberina interagisce con la ciclosporina aumentandone del 75% i livelli plasmatici (19). L’uso di prodotti a base di crespino dovrebbe essere evitato in pazienti sottoposti a trapianto di rene.
